Although Caren Stewart currently lives and plays in Pisgah Forest, her art career really began as a child, living in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she grew up knowing she wanted to be an artist at a very young age. Around that time, she figured out a way to use drawing as a way of escaping into an imaginative world of her own creation.
Caren works in a variety of media, including pen & ink, watercolor, oil pastel, papier mache, and pretty much anything she can create with. She likes learning new techniques and sharing her skills and knowledge with others.
Caren has over fifteen years of art teaching and curriculum writing experience, including one on one, group instruction, and leading creative workshops that may also combine the use of SoulCollage® and yoga practices. She has worked with diverse populations of students, ranging in age from elementary to adult. Nothing brings Caren more joy than facilitating community projects and seeing how art can bring people together.
Caren holds a master’s degree in education and earned her B.F.A. in sculpture from Pratt Institute, where she was also awarded the Pratt Circle Award for drawing and painting. She is a certified SoulCollage® facilitator and certified yoga teacher.
Caren believes that our purpose is to create, in order to lead a fully engaged and joyful life.
