Executive Director Search: Job Description

The Transylvania Community Arts Council (TC Arts) ) located in beautiful Brevard, NC seeks knowledgeable and articulate individuals with a passion for the arts to apply for the position of Executive Director of the Arts Council. This is an opportunity to lead a multi-faceted, vibrant, arts organization and take it to the next level. The candidate of choice will report to and work in collaboration with the Board of Directors (BOD), embracing a philosophy of continuous improvement. 





Bachelor’s degree minimum


Experience: Any combination of training, experience and education which provides the required knowledge and skills to perform the duties of this position:

  • Working with or leading a non-profit organization

  • The supervision of staff

  • The ability to create compelling marketing materials using both traditional and web-based platforms

  • Ability to utilize a variety of social media tools

  • Management of a budget

  • Arts Education

  • Event planning 

  • Art Gallery Management

  • Fundraising and Development

  • Public speaking

  • A philosophy that embraces continuous improvement


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Participate with the BOD in the implementation of TC Arts Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan

  • Inform the BOD of internal and external issues affecting TC Arts 

  • Foster effective teamwork among the BOD, staff, and volunteers

  • Represent TC Arts at community events and programs

  • Participate with the BOD in the hiring and evaluation of staff

  • Support the BOD by preparing agendas, documents, and artifacts for BOD meetings, the annual report, and other communications as required


Operational and Program planning and development:

  • Develop and oversee an efficient and effective day-to-day plan for the operation of TC Arts Offices, Community Gallery, and Community Classrooms 

  • Develop and implement health and safety standards across all Arts Council

  • Ensure personnel, financial, client, donor, and volunteer files are confidentially and properly maintained and secured

  • Oversee and ensure that the programs and services of TC Arts are aligned with the organizations mission and vision

  • Monitor the day-to-day delivery of programs and services of TC Arts 

Financial Planning:

  • Work with BOD to prepare an annual comprehensive budget  

  • Work with the BOD and Development Coordinator to secure adequate funding for the operation of TC Arts services and programs

  • Research fundraising plans, present them to the BOD, and oversee the development of fundraising initiatives

  • Approve expenditures within the authority granted by the BOD

  • Ensure sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed

  • Provide the BOD with comprehensive, regular financial reports

  • Ensure that TC Arts complies with all mandated state and federal regulations, reports and filings 



  • Establish excellent rapport and positive working relationships with all stakeholders, community groups, media, funders, and agencies to deliver and further TC Arts mission and vision

  • Work with the BOD, staff, volunteers, and partners to develop and expand TC Arts and Art Gallery’s visibility and branding 

  • Act as the primary spokesperson for TC Arts


Part-time to start, transitioning to full time ( TBD)

Salary commensurate with experience
