1. How long has TC Arts been in existence?
We were incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1985.

 

2. Where are you located?
The Transylvania Community Arts Council is located at 349 South Caldwell Street, three blocks from downtown Brevard.  This has been our home since mid-1999. You’re very welcome to stop by: The gallery is open to the public Tuesday – Friday, 11am – 5pm. During exhibits, the gallery is also open to the public on Saturday, 1-4pm. TC Arts also operates a cooperative of Transylvania County Artists at the #7 Arts Gallery, located at 2 West Main Street across from the Courthouse.

 

3. Who is on your staff?

Executive Director, Kathy King, oversees operations, programming, community relations, and partnerships. Joan VanOrman serves as the Development Director for the TC Arts Council.  Number 7 Arts has a Steering Committee that oversees operations.   

 

4. What about your Board?
As a non-profit organization, we have a Board of Directors, consisting of county residents from a range of backgrounds. Our current board of directors include Cindy Rehm, President; Billy Smith, Vice President; -  Sue Hershey, Recording Secretary; and Chris Price, Treasurer. Other board members are Jack Christfield, Derrick Gardner, Courtney Mason, Stephen Rapp, Caren Stewart, and Brian Stretcher. Learn more about our Board members on the Our Board page.

5. Do you have volunteer opportunities?
Yes, yes, yes! In fact, we couldn’t exist without the hard work and dedication of hundreds of volunteers. With tasks ranging from volunteers for mass mailings, special events, building and grounds, receptions, art camps, Love Chefs for receptions and events, substitute docents for the gallery. . . well, you get the point …, we have plenty of opportunities for everybody to become involved! 6. How are you funded?
Annual contributions by individuals in our community are our largest source of funds. The Arts Council also receives partial funding for programs through grants from the North Carolina Arts Council, Audrey Love Charitable Foundation, Duke Energy, City of Brevard, Transylvania County, Pisgah Forest Rotary, Lake Toxaway Charities, Art 4 Moore, Transylvania County School District and local businesses. We also seek sponsorships for specific programs and projects, and earn income
from our programs and gallery sales.
