Third Thursday Open Mic Night

  • 349 South Caldwell Street Brevard, NC, 28712 United States (map)

Join your friends for Third Thursday at Transylvania Arts, an open mic night for writers, on Thursday, May 15. The event takes place in the Arts Council Gallery at 349 South Caldwell Street.

Writers of all ages are invited to share their work in any genre, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, slam, and hybrid. New this month—singer-songwriters welcome! Solo musicians can present a 4-minute sample of original music.

Our May event will feature Richard Morgan, a poet who grew up in Newburgh, New York, sixty miles north of New York City. Morgan was a teacher for more than 50 years, and a poet even longer. His first book, I Am Sea Glass, was published in 2011, and his eleventh collection, Poemshine, was published in 2023. Richard and his wife, artist Pat Morgan, moved to Hendersonville in 2018 and live with the wind on the side of a mountain. He teaches poetry workshops and writes every day.

Registration begins at 6.15pm and the microphone opens at 6.30pm.

Each writer has 4 minutes to present their work, and the moderator will sound a chime to signal when time expires. The event concludes at 7.30pm.

The public is invited to attend and enjoy an evening of readings by some of our talented local writers. Although there is no cost to attend our Open Mic, the Arts Council respectfully requests a $5 donation from presenters to offset overhead costs. Come enjoy an evening of fun and creativity!
