What If? - A Three-Day Master Class with Mary Alice Braukman
Join internationally award-winning artist Mary Alice Braukman for this exciting 3-day workshop designed to encourage participants to take their art in new directions. Participants will work with a wide variety of mediums, colors, and collage, and experiment with various transfer techniques on different surfaces.
Participants will be encouraged to find their unique personal direction whether working abstractly or representationally. The goal is to make each painting sing with energy! Students will begin to ask “What If?” about their painting, and this is where they begin pushing themselves.
The workshop is a very hands-on experience and will include discussions, demonstrations, and individual attention. Individual guidance and critiques will be offered daily, as well as a class critique on the final day.
The workshop will meet from 10am-4pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, August 11, 13, and 15. On Tuesday and Thursday, students may work on their own in the classroom, or they may prefer to work from home on those days.
This class is open to anyone that would like to explore mixed media techniques, layering, collage and transfers, and how to incorporate these into their paintings. If you feel you are stuck, this workshop will inspire and fuel new ideas! Ask “What If?” and begin exploring those ideas.
Many supplies will be furnished at no charge, including wood blocks (to paint on); paper; transfer materials; mediums (polymer gloss fluid and matt fluid medium); and some collage materials. Students may also bring their own. Gator Boards for substrate support will be available to use during the workshop. A list of other supplies will be provided upon registration.
When: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; August 11, 13, and 15; 10am-4pm
What to Bring: Apron, bottled water, snacks, and lunch (or lunch $$); a supply list will be provided following registration.
Registration Fee: $450
