2022 Summer Arts Academy

Class Descriptions


Art Exploration: Create a variety of artwork while learning new techniques in drawing and painting. Learning to look and see in combination with imagination will truly be a fun and exciting week at TC Arts Summer Arts Academy! 


Broadway Bound!: Enjoy a fun and exciting week with friends who love to be on stage. Well-known musical theater show tunes will provide inspiration for a performance you will all-star in that your family can see at the end of this week at TC Arts Summer Arts Academy!


Clay Creations: In Clay Creations, you will create colorful pottery using various methods, including coiling and slab building. 

Discovering the Ukulele:  This is the perfect class for those students interested in learning this fun instrument! Each day, we will explore the foundations of the ukulele, learning simple chords and strumming patterns, and basic melodies. The week will close out with a mini-performance of songs learned throughout the camp. By the end of the week, students will want to start their own ukulele band! No prior musical experience is required.

Drawing Brevard: This entire morning class will focus on developing observational drawing skills while visiting several locations to gain inspiration from, within walking distance of the Arts Council. We will learn and practice a variety of drawing techniques.  Please Note: A specific sketch book and other specific additional materials essential to drawing will be required.

Drawing with Billy Smith: What an opportunity! Spend the week with local artist Billy Smith as he guides you in learning to draw.

Fiber Arts: Crochet: In this class crochet artists will learn the basics of crocheting – chain stitch, single crochet stitch, and more – as they learn to make a scarf. Crochet hooks and yarn will be supplied, although students are welcome to bring their own 4-ply knitting worsted yarn.

GarageBand: Learn the fundamentals of recording, composing, and audio production with Apple’s free digital audio workstation, GarageBand! GarageBand is used by musicians, voice actors, and filmmakers to create original music and audio. With hands-on experience and guidance, students will create their own project by the end of the program. No musical experience is necessary. Requirements: An iPad or MacBook with the GarageBand App installed and some extra storage space.

Introduction to Cartooning: Draw cartoon characters in this fun introductory cartooning class. Learn how to design your own characters, and construct fun facial features, eyes, hair, and costumes. A small sketchbook is required.


Introduction to Digital Photography: Digital photography is an amazing medium for young artists to learn to see and create.  During this weeklong class, you will photograph a variety of subject matter and learn to enhance and alter your photographs.

Introduction to Songwriting:  Learn about the process of writing songs, from brainstorming to writing, and experimenting with rhyme and rhythm. 


Sculpture: We will have fun creating papier mache, nature, and mixed media sculptures using our imagination to make three-dimensional art.

Storybook Art and Bookmaking: In this class, creativity, reading, writing, and art meet as you learn to express your ideas visually.  We will utilize a variety of materials, techniques, and strategies in the process.


Theater Workshop: If you’ve been “bitten by the acting bug,” come join us for an exploration of some of the many facets of theater during this week-long workshop. Theater games, improv, auditioning techniques, and costuming are some of the activities included in this fun-filled workshop!  Ages 8-14.

Tweens/Teens Pottery Wheel: In this class for tweens & teens, participants will learn the basics of working on the potter’s wheel, including wedging, centering, and using tools. Basic small to medium sized vessels (e.g., cylinders, bowls) will be taught. Students will also learn basic decoration and glazing techniques. 


All classes are limited to ten students per class.


Class Time:

Morning Session: 9.15am-12.30pm.  Please ensure that your child arrives at TC Arts at 9.15am so that classes may begin promptly.

Afternoon Session: 1.30-3.00pm

Registration Fee (includes all materials, except as noted in class descriptions): 

Morning Sessions: $225 per session

Afternoon Sessions: $125 per session
